Celebrating Easter

This spring, I've challenged my Class 4 pupils to write a short chant about Easter and illustrate it. Then, I read the chants to their peers from other classes, without revealing the authors' names, and asked them to vote for the best ones in their opinion. I've sent the best 4 to the international contest organised by Marijampolė Petro Armina Progymnasium, Lithuania, and the authors (Hristina, Kalina, Sara and Teja) received their certificates.

Republic Foreign Languages Competition 2024

Nearly 1,500 Class 8 pupils from different regions of Serbia took part in the Republic English language competition on 7 April in Belgrade.

Vanja tried his best to do reading (8/8) and listening (6/7) comprehension and grammar (19/30) tests, and qualify for the speaking test, but the grammar part was a bit challenging (missed 6 points), so he was not invited to the last round.

Nevertheless, it was a fantastic opportunity for him to meet new friends and hang out with them, walk along the famous pedestrian streets and round Kalemegdan Park, and visit the Uroš Predić – the Noble Essence of Everyday Life exhibition at the SASA Gallery showcasing artwork from various collections.

Seasons

After learning a catchy song about the months of a year, talking about our favourite seasons and the reasons why we like them, I asked my Class 3 pupils to write a poem about the season they were born in. I shared a model with them, too.

Then, I asked them to make a line according to their birthdays. What followed was teamwork on posters. Divided into teams according to the seasons they were born in, my Class 3 pupils created their mini posters sharing their favourite activities, the food they eat and clothes they wear in that particular season, and, of course, their birthdays:

Finally, each team presented their creative works and received comments.

HIPPO 2024

Three groups of my pupils, 15 of them, took part in this year's preliminary round of Hippo Olympiad. Both experienced competitors and those accepting this international language challenge for the first time agreed that the tests were easy, so we're looking forward to receiving good news in a few weeks.

The competition for local pupils was organised on 16 March in Đura Jakšić Primary School.

Regional Foreign Languages Competition 2024

Two of my oldest pupils were among 50 Class 8 pupils who took part in this year's Regional Foreign Languages Competition held on 10 March at Vuk Karadžić Primary School.

To our great surprise, nearly half of them (23) ended the competition in first 3 places.

With 37 points, Vanja won the second place, while, unfortunately, Ognjen had 30 points which were not enough for the State Competition.

The types of tasks were similar to the test in the previous round.

Fish Everywhere

This catchy song's excellent for practising reading, revising colours and prepositions of place, and introducing was/were to young pupils:

There was a blue fish in the pool,
Mum was scared, but I was cool.
There were green fish in my bed,
There was one on my mum's head.

Fish, fish, everywhere,
On the sofa, on the chair.
Quick, quick, Sue and Frank,
Get the fish back in the tank!

There was a pink fish on the mat,
It was really big and fat.
There were red fish on the floor,
Five or six, or maybe more.

Fish, fish, everywhere,...
